Eisele Vineyard

Few vineyard names in Napa Valley rival the legendary status of Eisele. Tucked off Pickett Road in Calistoga, where the Vaca Mountains slope into alluvial fans of cobble and volcanic ash, the site’s history dates back to the 1880s. It survived phylloxera and Prohibition, ultimately emerging as one of the valley’s most enduring grand cru Cabernet Sauvignon sites. Over time, its reputation became inseparable from the people who stewarded it—from Barbara and Milton Eisele, who bought the vineyard in the 1960s, to Daphne and Bart Araujo in the 1990s, and now to the Pinault family’s Artémis Domaines.

The vineyard’s modern era began with a single bottling that helped establish Eisele in Napa’s long-term consciousness. The first wine to carry the vineyard’s name on the label was Paul Draper’s 1971 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele, a solitary vintage from Ridge’s brief experiment sourcing from the site.
