Alban Vineyards
When John Alban launched his first wines in 1991—a Viognier and a Roussanne from California’s Central Coast—the state’s wine scene was very different. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon dominated, and few believed Rhône varieties had a promising future in California. But Alban’s belief that grapes like Syrah, Viognier, and Grenache could succeed in the state’s diverse climates helped spark a movement that transformed the Central Coast and redefined California wine.
