Château Zegaani

Château Zegaani, located in Georgia’s Kakheti region on the northeastern slopes of the Tsiv-Gombori ridge, was founded in 1820 by Prince Alexander Chavchavadze. It is one of the country’s most historically significant estates—a place where European influences were melded with Georgian winemaking traditions. Today, under the stewardship of David Tatulashvili and his family, the estate is undergoing a renaissance, producing small quantities of singular wines that are becoming highly sought by collectors around the world.

The Calling

Château Zegaani estate dates back to 1783, when King Erekle II gifted vineyards and property to Prince Garsevan Chavchavadze, a diplomat who helped negotiate the Treaty of Georgievsk with Russia. His son, Alexander, returned from European military campaigns inspired by what he had seen abroad. He brought home new techniques—aging wine in oak, separating plantings...
